Cabin 1 – Karibu

Pronounced ka-REE-boo, which means “welcome” in Swahili.

Decorated with African artifacts, this traditional, vintage log cabin is close to the lake – ideal for your “Northwoods safari.” This is the last of the original cabins and has been dubbed an historical marker. It was constructed in the 1930s by Simon Anderson, who harvested cedar logs from the property. In spite of many updates, including indoor plumbing and electrical work, this cabin maintains its charm.

Karibu is a seasonal cabin. It is open May 1 through October 1, and features two bedrooms, a bathroom with a shower, a kitchen/dining area and a living room with flat screen TV and VCR/DVD. The master bedroom contains a double bed, and the second bedroom has both a double bed and a set of bunks.

If you are looking for a bit of Northwoods nostalgia in an old-fashioned resort setting, the rustic Karibu is ideal. It offers a great view of Squaw Lake from its quaint, up-north green screened porch. It may be our least expensive cabin to rent, but only because it is the smallest. As with all our cabins, all resort facilities are included for the price of the cabin rental.

BTW: We named this cabin “Karibu” to pay tribute to our African travels, and how and where we got the idea to become innkeepers.
